“It’s not what you achieve, it’s what you overcome. That’s what defines your career.”
Find How Rohit Malhotra, ICPM Spring Batch 2013 Enabled Himself To Move his corporate career forward.
Rohit Malhotra, AVP-Business Development at Vantage Circle, was though doing fairly well in his sales career; however, was somewhere feeling a strong need of enhancing his career path as he wanted to learn how to create products that customers will love. He always felt that due to his lack of technical knowledge he had a difficulty in understanding a few of the concepts which he thought apparently will improve if he widens his product management knowledge.
"There is no elevator to success, you have always to take the stairs to reach the destination."
In his words, Rohit Malhotra explains reason for his inclination towards product management “I look after business development and sales getting in national and local brands. I am currently also involved in operational roles as well as heading the local sales division. I was interested in learning more about product management and was keen to learn how to create a product and what entails in making a successful product.” And when he decided to enhance his learning skills, the perennial question popped up was…From where should he learn more about Products?
"Make the decision and make it with confidence:"
"As long as you have passion, faith and you are willing to do work hard, you can do anything."
According to Rohit Malhotra, the best part about the course was that it gave him the exposure to learn about product management and skills gained during the program were product management framework, productizing and presentation. He further highlights the need to take leverage of an opportunity as what the best part he liked was that he can always fall back on the network provided to participants by IPL. He unleashes further when his company had to raise funding, ICPM accreditation was extremely useful to talk to their investors.
In the new role of heading a division, it has helped him to understand the concept in a better way. Post program he is witnessing the following changes in his career:
• Now he understands the whys and how of the product management process—and how to make the best use of it. • He became marketing savvy and can perform his job more effectively. • He can set priorities and manage the profitability of his products or service.
• He can build effective working relationships with suppliers and with external and internal business partners.
• He learned how to manage the financial aspects of product management.
Three takeaways from the program he describes as:
● Faculty
● Industry Connect
● Product Labs
● Industry Connect
● Product Labs
"If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go with others."
He feels happy to be still in touch with all his peers on Whatsapp and LinkedIn group, post program he has eventually realized the importance of networking as it does not merely help him to keep updated about the product industry but also helps him in figuring out where he stands at this point in his career path. He learned that networking is more about farming than it is about hunting as it helps you in cultivating the relationships.
